STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNICATION ROUTES
One of the tasks of the Numeko Technologies is to strive for robust communications and it also has certain resources for various measures to strengthen these communication routes.
The measures taken using the resources of Numeko are generated for where society needs improved robustness in order to be able to deal with unusual circumstances. Within the framework of its robustness work, Numeko has assigned the operators to ensure that they have the capacity to:
- Establish increased capacity and/or coverage for temporary needs in connection with various kinds of emergency or planned events that involve a large concentration of people
- Replace base stations that are put out of commission in major emergencies as well as during normal operational disruptions
The solution was that the operators agreed on a joint requirement specification and the collaboration led to the acquisition of a number of 'mobile base stations'
LIMITED POTENTIAL TO QUICKLY INCREASE CAPACITY
Access to mobile networks is crucial for spreading knowledge about serious events, but also so that the general public can notify authorities in the event of an emergency and issue warnings more rapidly.
The potential of operators to quickly increase capacity in a certain location during a relatively short period of time is limited if this type of need should arise. In this type of situation, many people are located in a certain place for the duration of the event and networks are not always dimensioned for this at that particular site. Those attempting to make calls using their mobile telephones may then find that they do not work. This is usually not a disaster, but if an emergency arises at the same time, it is likely that the pressure on the mobile networks will increase dramatically. This means that it will be difficult to make calls from mobile telephones in the area and, correspondingly, to mobile telephones in the area. The pressure on all of society's resources will increase.
Today, operators also have limited potential to rapidly offer coverage in an area that has no coverage at all. This type of need could possibly arise at the site of an emergency or if one or more base stations have been put out of commission for some reason.
Operators are responsible for mobile base stations being used optimally with both a preventive aim and so that disruption times in mobile networks are reduced in connection with different types of event. The operator determines if and when the mobile base stations should be used.
